Learning, Friends, and Fun

Four weeks, three teams, and three learning modules later, IMLP Bootcamp has come to a close. At the beginning of July, 89 IMLPs from all over the world convened in Danbury, CT at the Danbury Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. The month long training event kicked off with a rousing welcome and introduction from our fearless leader, Greg Druckman, the Global IMLP Program Leader.
Bootcamp was now underway and we moved right into the Presentation Skills module. For three days, we learned important presentation creation skills, presentation delivery skills, and had the opportunity to practice giving presentations in front of our teams.
The Finance and Project Management Module, which followed, allowed us to learn about the important aspects associated with running a project. From the tools used to initiate and run a project, to the financial knowledge needed to predict and request funding, this module gave us the important knowledge necessary to run projects within our rotations.
With one week behind us, we moved on to the largest module of Bootcamp, the Technology Module. Packed with SQL, Java, JavaScript, and HTML, this module provided a crash course overview of important technologies used within GE. This module conclcuded with a development project and final presentation. The highlight of this module was the opportunity to give presentations requesting approval for funding and implementation to members of GE management.
Bootcamp, however, was far from being strictly work. It was an opportunity to bond with people from all over the world. With people from all over the world, including the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Greece, India, Japan, China, Peru, and the United States, we all had the opportunity to learn from other cultures. Complete with a party hosted by the Indian IMLPs, a Luau, Monday night karaoke at Rosie Tomorrow's, trips to New York City, and a day of community service at Green Chimney's, there was plenty of time to relax and bond with the other IMLPs.
Bootcamp was an amazing experience. There are not many places where you can learn as much information as we did, have as much fun as we did, and network with as many wonderful people as we were able to.
