GE Docs: Collaboration at Work

GE DocsAs many posters have alluded to, GE continues to be at the forefront of professional networking, online collaboration, and productivity enhancement.  Nowhere is this more evident than in GE SupportCentralSupportCentral is a set of internal knowledge, data, and work-flow management tools.

As part of this suite of tools, GE is currently piloting an online document creation and collaboration tool called "GE Docs".  Not only does this tool allow users to create and edit documents from Microsoft Office's suite of products such as Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, but it allows users to edit wiki pages and web pages.  These edits can be done from done from a web browser, rather than requiring Word, Powerpoint, or Excel.  These documents, wiki pages, and web pages can then be stored on GE's internal file storage system, GE Libraries.

Once they have been created in or uploaded to a library, permissions can be set to allow multiple people to edit the document in a single place.  Libraries allows for the capability of checking out and checking in a document, as well as keeping copies of old versions to see changes that have been made.

As IMLPs, we are encouraged to learn about and embrace all the technology available within GE.  As a result, I am currently taking part in three days of training, where I will learn GE SupportCentral inside and out.  This is yet another example of the training opportunities available to members of GE's leadership programs, especially the IMLP Program.
