A Syracuse Recruitment Story

Kaitlin, 1st Rotation IMLPLast week, I had my first experience being a part of an IMLP recruiting event at my alma mater, Syracuse University.  It was great to be back on campus and in the iSchool (Syracuse’s IT school) again, where I once spent the majority of my days studying and working in the labs of the iSchool basement.  I miss Syracuse!

I really enjoyed the opportunity to represent GE, IMLP, and the Syracuse iSchool all at once. It was great to see so many students (about 40) interested in IMLP and GE as a whole. We even had one student come all the way from RPI (Rochester, NY) to stop in and speak with us (ok, Rochester is not too, too far away but just to drop by and speak with us for a short time, that is a long way!).

Being only a 1st rotation IMLP, I was a little concerned going into this recruiting event that I did not have that much knowledge to share on the program as of yet. My concerns quickly disappeared as I started chatting with students. I really came to realize how much I have learned about GE and about the program in only 2-3 months on program. I was able to share a lot of information about the program and GE overall.

There seems to be great interest in IMLP at Syracuse from students in different areas of study including business students, IT students, and engineering students. Additionally, there seems to be interest in both full-time IMLP and IMLP internships. I informed students that GE is always present at Syracuse career fairs and that they should stop by to be considered for an interview for IMLP (both full-time and internships). I also informed them that they can apply online anytime at ge.com/imlp. Many students liked that we had a facebook page where they could talk directly with us.

I look forward to future opportunities to visit Syracuse, to share my experiences, and to recruit talented and interested students for IMLP!

Kaitlin is a first rotation IMLP with GE Corporate. She is originally from Readington, NJ and attended Syracuse University for both her graduate degree and undergrad. She currently works on three financial systems IT projects. She loves sports and all kinds of outdoor activities. Kaitlin is proud to say that she is loving her time at GE so far.
